Flight Sergeant Marion Hamilton

Flight Sergeant Marion Hamilton is a Communications and Information’s Systems Operator, now known as Network Technician. Throughout her career, Flight Sergeant Hamilton has enjoyed a number of exciting and challenging roles and has been fortunate to have deployed on multiple operations abroad including one to the Middle East where she was responsible for providing technical support to the deployed elements throughout the Middle East.  

She has developed significant experience in the Combat Support environment.

Flight Sergeant Hamilton also has been an instructor in Deployable Local Area Networks and Cyber Security for Navy, Army and Air Force.

She is now responsible for the provision of technical support functions to air operations at No 2 Air Borne Early Warning and Control Squadron.

Flight Sergeant Hamilton enjoys endurance sports and has participated in a number of Ironman’s across Australia.

Flight Sergeant Marion Hamilton enlisted in the Royal Australian Air Force 2007 as a Communications and Information’s Systems Operator, now known as Network Technician’s. Throughout her career, Flight Sergeant Hamilton has enjoyed a number of exciting and challenging roles and has been fortunate to have deployed on multiple operations abroad.

Upon completion of initial employment training in 2007,
Flight Sergeant Hamilton developed significant experience in the
Combat Support environment, specifically the Amberley based
382 Expeditionary Combat Support Squadron. Initially employed
as the Mercury Administrator for base services then moved to COMSEC, these roles proved to be a steep learning curve, however, it was invaluable in cementing the skills and knowledge gained from initial employment training.

From 2010-13 Flight Sergeant Hamilton posted to 1 Combat Support Squadron and was responsible for maintaining the Deployable Local Area Network suites. This role provided many opportunities to develop the skills required of an NCO in a high tempo and demanding environment. Flight Sergeant Hamilton was promoted to Corporal in 2012.

In 2014, Flight Sergeant Hamilton posted to COMSEC Pearce as an Alternate Custodian supporting local and international stakeholders for exercises and operations. COMSEC Pearce are responsible for providing communications support across Western Australia, this was a highly demanding role which required specialist knowledge in strategic telecommunications equipment. Flight Sergeant Hamilton was promoted to Sergeant in 2017.

Throughout the period of 2017-2020, Flight Sergeant Hamilton was posted to the Defence Force School of Signals as an instructor in Deployable Local Area Networks and Cyber Security for Navy, Army and Air Force trainees at all ranks. During this period she was also the Course Manager for the Network Technician mustering and was responsible for training and mentoring the Royal Australian Air Force’s newest communications specialists—a role Flight Sergeant Hamilton thoroughly enjoyed.

Flight Sergeant Hamilton was promoted to Flight Sergeant in 2021, where she is responsible for the provision of technical support functions to air operations at Number Two Squadron. This includes planning, installation, upgrade and maintenance of telecommunications and radio frequency wide area networks.

Flight Sergeant Hamilton’s operational experience includes OP SLIPPER in 2009/10 and 2012 and OP ACCORDION in 2019; however, the highlight of Flight Sergeant Hamilton’s career to date is during her last deployment as the Information Systems Manager in 2019. She was responsible for providing technical support and communications advice to the deployed elements throughout the Middle East. This was a very challenging role and has been one of the most enjoyable opportunities to date.
