Veteran Transport Services
Transport
Under the Repatriation Transport Scheme (RTS) Veteran Gold and White Cardholders can receive assistance towards travel costs to attend treatment within Australia.
You will need to make your own arrangements to use a private vehicle or public transport and then submit a reimbursement claim to DVA. You can also receive an allowance for accommodation for yourself and your medically approved travel attendant. A meal allowance may also be payable depending on how far you travel.
To learn more on what you can claim please see Claiming Travelling Expenses Under the Repatriation Transport Scheme.
DVA-Arranged travel
Under the Repatriation Transport Scheme (RTS), if you are a Veterans Gold CardHolder or White Card Holder, you may also be eligible for:
- pre-arranged and pre-paid transport to and from medical appointments
- free transport in an ambulance to and from medical appointments.
The RTS Scheme allows DVA to provide a pre-booked taxi or hire car service, under the Booked Car with Driver Scheme (BCS) for travel to approved treatment locations from your permanent residence. If you are travelling away from home and require medical treatment, DVA can also provide this service to and from your temporary residence.
